Almost 75 years ago, Dr. Willis C. Campbell set down his knowledge of orthopaedics in a volume he called Textbook on Orthopaedic Surgery. The first edition of Campbell's Operative Orthopaedics was published in 1939. The book has been revised and updated every five to seven years by Campbell Clinic staff members. The eleventh edition of the text was published in 2007.
Campbell's Operative is now a four-volume textbook and has been translated into seven languages (Chinese, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish). The book contains over 4,000 pages with 1,800 descriptions of orthopaedic procedures and over 9,000 illustrations. Campbell's Operative has been called 'the definitive orthopaedic surgery reference' and 'the bible of orthopaedic surgery' for surgeons all over the world.
