Dr. Toy has pioneered outpatient total joint replacement in the Mid-South. Patients are able to have total joint replacement in the ambulatory surgery center and go home hours after surgery. Being among of the first to perform outpatient total joint replacement, Dr. Toy has been instrumental in developing patient selection protocols, clinical procedures, pain control regimens, and anesthesia protocols, as well as serving as a consultant for surgeons who wish to add outpatient total joint replacement to their practice. Dr. Toy has also been asked to be a key-note speaker on total joint replacement in an ambulatory surgery center at several orthopaedic meetings.

In 2013, Dr. Toy was the first to perform direct anterior total hip replacement surgery at Campbell Clinic. This procedure allows patients to undergo hip replacement in an outpatient setting, begin walking hours after surgery, and attend outpatient physical therapy. Dr. Toy has participated in development teams to design implants and instruments associated with joint replacement, including the instruments that are used in direct anterior hip replacement.

While total joint replacement surgery is a large part of his practice, he also sees a wide range of sports injuries, pediatric & adult trauma, and sub-specializes in orthopaedic oncology. Additionally, Dr. Toy takes call as the orthopaedic staff physician at several Emergency Rooms in the Memphis area (Regional One “The Med”, Lebonheur Children’s Hospital, Methodist University Hospital, Baptist Children’s Hospital, and Baptist Collierville Hospital).
